Healthy Eating Habits

Nourishing young bodies and minds

School meals play a vital role in shaping lifelong healthy eating habits, and the right balance of vitamins and minerals can contribute to a child's mental and physical development. Research has shown that proper nutrition can improve children’s ability to concentrate, reduce disruptive behaviour, and encourage children to attend school.

At Glanmore Foods, we take nutrition seriously. We’re committed to providing meals that support the health and well-being of every student, with carefully crafted recipes that incorporate fresh, local ingredients whenever possible.  We believe that well-nourished students are better equipped to learn, grow, and succeed. This commitment to nutrition is why so many schools across the country trust Glanmore Foods to deliver their school meals.

Developing Our Menus

Our menu is thoughtfully developed with both kids and parents in mind, focusing on reducing food waste and offering meals that children truly enjoy. To keep things fresh and prevent menu fatigue, we update our menu regularly, ensuring that it stays interesting while minimising waste.

We actively seek community input by involving parents and children in the decision-making process through voting polls and tasting sessions, allowing us to tailor meals to the preferences of the students.

Additionally, our app features a Suggestion Box, where parents can submit ideas for new meal options or improvements, helping us continuously refine our offerings. To further reduce waste, students have the flexibility to opt in or out of meals on any given day. We also offer nutritional workshops and educational materials to encourage informed choices and promote healthy eating habits among students.

Dietary Peace Of Mind

We offer a comprehensive menu that caters to a wide range of dietary needs, ensuring that all students have access to meals that suit their preferences and requirements. Every day, we provide lactose-free, gluten-free, vegetarian, and vegan options. Our production facility is entirely nut-free, creating a safe environment for students with nut allergies. We also respect cultural dietary preferences by including Halal chicken and turkey, along with a variety of diverse vegan dishes, to ensure our menu reflects the needs and values of the community we serve.

Certified Gluten-Free Meals

We work closely with certified gluten-free suppliers to provide safe meal options for students with coeliac disease. These suppliers guarantee the gluten-free status of their meals, which are delivered to us pre-wrapped to prevent any risk of contamination. The meals remain sealed until they are delivered to schools, preserving their gluten-free integrity. For hot food options, the meals are only opened by the student after being fully heated, ensuring the highest level of safety and care.

Compliant With Hi-Ireland Guidelines

We are committed to promoting balanced diets, which is why every meal includes a portion of vegetables, carbohydrates, and protein. Our menu features a diverse range of protein sources, including chicken, turkey, beef, fish, and plant-based options like lentils, beans, and chickpeas. We offer a variety of vegetables such as peas, carrots, peppers, butternut squash, sweetcorn, sweet potato, broccoli, and spinach. Red meat is included in the menu two to three times per week, specifically on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays, in accordance with Hi Ireland guidelines. Processed meats, fried foods, and other high-fat options are limited to one day per week, with these items appearing on the menu on Tuesdays.

To further promote healthy choices, our potato cubes are baked rather than fried. Fish is offered at least once a week, with tuna available on Fridays. Each dish on our menu is carefully nutritionally analysed, ensuring compliance with Healthy Ireland guidelines.
